I have a Microsoft Office folder but Publisher isn't in there. I kind of need Publisher for my Product Design GCSE - that is the program we use in school so I would need to be able to open work I start in class and finish it at home, and vice versa. I don't have an A3 printer either, so I would have to be able to. I have a Microsoft Office folder but Publisher isn't in there. I don't have an A3 printer either, so I would have to be able to open it to print at school. I know Publisher is pretty useless before anyone points that out, but as I said, it is what they use at school. For my bridging work I used Pages in iWork, which I know is probably better, but they don't have it at school. Can anyone help, or can you just not get it for Mac? If not, why not?! Best Answer: No. Publisher is Windows only AND it uses a proprietary format that no other program can read.
There are a few conversion strategies, including an online one that might extract data, but those are one-way only and will not help you in working on a project between home and school. The only real solution is to buy Windows and Publisher and install them on an Intel Mac under Bootcamp. That, and complaining bitterly to the school why they are using a proprietary program in their course that no professional designer in their right mind would touch with a 10 foot pole. Ask the school if they have discounted student prices on Windows and Publisher. Unfortunately, no. It is not part of Office for the Mac like it is on the PC, and there really aren't any reliable conversion utilities that will let you open pubs created in publisher on the Mac.
If you simply want to send publisher creations to friends, create a.pdf file and then any computer should be able to read it. The Mac has a number of much more powerful programs available that are also cross-platform so they could be opened in both OSX and Windows if you have the fonts and other resources.
The most popular and powerful are InDesign (Adobe) and Quark XPress. If you just need similar functions and simple page layout and don't need cross-platform capability (basic pdf creation is easy and built-in), you could go with either of the above or Apple's new version of Pages. Of course, MS Word has some page layout functions, too, but it's a bear to use for this purpose - even worse than Publisher!. Tell us some more. Upload in Progress.
